David Bennett:”Artisans have been blowing glass into metal forms for two thousand years. We are pushing the technique. We can make complex forms in glass and bronze that we could not do in either medium alone. As we’ve stretched the technical processes of blowing glass into metal, I’ve had more and more artistic freedom. Our figures can be lighter and wilder in their motions, and we’ve become able to manipulate the glass around its armatures in increasingly playful ways.
As this happened a new quality arose in my work: it has become more fluid. I think these new figures have the effect of not only capturing the dancers’ motion, but of infusing them with the motion of the glass. It is liquid and shimmering. The metal structures—rigid and formal in a way that glass alone can’t be—literally allow us to build a cage that holds glass shooting through the air. And the glass animates these formal structures with its fluidity: It’s like a photograph of water frozen for a second in the air. It’s an effect that I don’t think one could capture with any other medium.”
David Bennett:”Los artesanos han estado soplando el vidrio en el metal durante dos mil años. Empujamos la técnica. Podemos hacer formas complejas en el vidrio y el bronce que nosotros no podíamos hacer en ningún medio solo. Como hemos estirado los procesos técnicos de soplar el vidrio en el metal, he tenido la libertad cada vez más artística. Nuestras figuras pueden ser ligeras y despistar en sus movimientos, y nos hemos hecho capaces de manipular el vidrio alrededor de sus armaduras de modos cada vez más juguetones.
Con esto resultó una nueva calidad que surgió en mi trabajo: esto se ha hecho más fluido. Pienso estos nuevas figuras tienen el efecto de no sólo capturar el movimiento de los bailarines,también de fusión de ellos con el movimiento del vidrio. Esto es el líquido y el brillo. El metal rígido de estructuras y formal en un camino que el vidrio solo no puede literalmente ser nos permite para construir una jaula que sostiene al vidrio que se dispara por el aire. Y el vidrio anima estas estructuras formales con su fluidez: Esto se parece a una fotografía del agua congelada durante un segundo en el aire. Esto es un efecto que pienso que uno podría capturar con cualquier otro medio.”
Me resultó increible la obra de este artista, su dominio del vidrio es aluciante!
